Attendance and the school Day
Research shows that there is a direct link between a child’s attendance and their progress.
The government have stipulated, in law, that children must be in school as frequently as possible unless there are very good reasons. These reasons and other information are explained in the Harvey Road School Attendance Policy.
School Opening Times
Nursery
The Nursery is open from 9 am – 3.15 pm each day. The morning session finishes at 12 noon. The afternoon session from 12 – 3.15 pm is available for those parents who are eligible for 30 hours free childcare scheme or at a cost of £16 per session.
Reception and Key Stage 1
Children and parents should arrive onto the school playground by 8.45am and in time for the bell to be rung (at 8.55am for Reception and 8.50am for KS1). Children will line up and then be taken into class. If your child comes in after this time they will be marked as late. Morning playtime is from 10.40am until 10.55am. A fruit snack is provided at playtime for all children in Reception and Key Stage 1. Lunchtime is from 12pm until 1.15 pm. The school day ends at 3.15 pm for Reception Class and 3.20pm for Class 1 and 2. It is important to collect your child promptly. Please let the teacher or office know if someone else is to collect your child.
Key Stage 2
Children and parents should arrive onto the school playground by 8.45am and in time for the 8.55am bell to be rung. Children will line up and then be taken into class. If your child comes in after this time they will be marked as late. Morning playtime is from 10.40am until 10.55am while Lunchtime is from 12.15pm until 1.15pm.
The school day ends at 3.25pm. Children can only walk to and from school alone if they are in Year 6 or in the summer term of Year 5. Parents of children in Year 5 will need to write a letter to their teacher at the start of the summer term stating that it is their wish for their children to walk to and/or from school independently.
Parking
For the safety of our children, the school vehicle gates are kept closed throughout the day and parents are not allowed to drive on site without permission. We would encourage parents to walk to school, however if this is not possible please be considerate of our neighbours if you park on local roads and do not obstruct their driveways.
Absences
If your child is going to be absent from school it is important that you notify the school office by 8.30am. The school absence telephone number is 01923 773801.
If the school has not received a reason for a child’s absence we will contact the family that morning to enquire after the child’s wellbeing.
If you would like to request your child to be absent from school for anything other than illness, then please complete the form below and email to the school office on admin@harveyroad.herts.sch.uk
