Governors

 Welcome!

The governors would like to welcome you to Harvey Road School. This section will explain about the purpose and focus of the governors at the school.

Our Aims

The main aim of governing board is to ensure the delivery of a high standard of education to all pupils who attend the school. They work closely with the Headteacher and Senior Leadership Team to ensure that the children are continually provided with a safe, happy and engaging environment, to help them learn and grow. The day-to-day management of the school is the responsibility of the Headteacher and staff. The governing body help the senior leadership team and staff develop a strategic vision for the school.

Who are we

At Harvey Road School, the governing board is made up of a team of volunteers from either the school community or the outside community. It will compromise of: parent governors, staff governor, a Local Authority appointed governor, the headteacher, as well as co-opted governors. Each bring a wide range of skills that help to make a range of objective and fair decisions regarding the school.

How we do it

In order to made key decisions, governors have to do the following:

1. Attend committee meetings to discuss and review key issues. The two types of committee meetings are:

(A) School Improvement Committee (looking at the progress of pupils, reviewing the progress of ongoing action plans):

(B) Resources Committee (looking at school finances). Both of these help the governing body and school strive towards better outcomes for the pupils.

2. Make regular informal visits to the school, interacting with the staff and making observations of key issues.

3. Attend  training courses supplied by Hertfordshire County Council to enhance their understanding in order to carry out the role more effectively.
