Eco-Battlers

Eco-Battlers

Here at Harvey Road School our children have created an action group they have called Eco-Battlers.  The aim of this group of children is to:

  • Encourage everyone within the school community to become environmentally aware
  • To educated children about environmental issues and the impact of global warming
  • To identify ways that children, parents and staff can work together to make a more environmentally sustainable future

In September, children from Year 1 to Year 6 can nominate themselves for election onto the Eco-Battler Group.  To be successful, children are required to write an manifesto and present this to the children in the class who will carry out a secret ballot to identify the two children who will represent the class views.   As you can imagine this is a highly competitive event and children work hard to succeed in this process.

As always this will be a very busy year and the Eco-Battlers have agreed some exciting projects that will be their focus for this academic year.

In October, the Eco-Battlers worked together with the school council to organise a Harvey Road School litter pick as part of the National Green Week. We were joined by parents and grandparents and went through Croxley woods collecting rubbish.
The local Parish Council kindly lent us the litter pickers and accompanied us on our litter pick.  We collected 8.4kg of litter!

Harvey Road School growing success!

Harvey Road School was excited to win the Croxley Hardware Potato Bucket competition at the Croxley Annual Home and Produce Show which took place on Saturday 13th September.

The picture shows Tony Walker, owner of Croxley Hardware, presenting the cup to Harvey Road School Pupils. The school‘s winning crop was 423g. In the spring, the Gardening Club planted seed potatoes in buckets, harvesting some before the school’s summer holiday and keeping one bucket to enter in the annual competition.  The children are going to make soup with the potatoes and other vegetables they have been growing.
